Diran
Tavitjan was born 1977 in Skopje, Macedonia.
He got in touch with music at 6 years when he start
attending piano at the classical music school. At that
time his father, one of the best drummers on the Balkans
Garabet Tavitjan was member of very
famous jazz-rock band called Leb i Sol.
Since then he was immediately attracted with jazz and
contemporary music.
Diran has a complete music education as a pianist and
percussion player.
Later, he had private studies of jazz theory and arranging
with Ilija Pejovski who graduated at
Berklee College of music class 1977.
Since recently Diran is a fellowship holder of prestigious
Jazz Music Academy Berklee College of music,
in Boston.
Tavitjan has been actively engaged in musical creativity
– composing, arranging and performing.
He has been appearing and performing at numerous concerts
organized within the Musical Academy by its orchestra
and, also he has had many soloist performances at the
“Days of Macedonian Music”.
From 1995, his primary engagement became his father’s
band “Garo & Paramecium”
where Diran took part as a composer, arranger and performer
and successfully fulfilled his working carrier till
present day. The music behind this band is a mixture
of jazz, rock, funk and Macedonian traditional music
in highly energetic manner. With Paramecium, Diran has
many appearances on Jazz festivals at the Balkans as
well as the local jazz club scenes such as Lucky
Strike Jazz festival in Belgrade where he shared
the stage with world most prominent musicians like,
Joe Zawinull, Branford Marsalis, McCoy Tyner,
The Blues Brothers etc,
and other festivals in Belgrade, Croatia, Bulgaria Greece
and Italy.
In addition to all this, Tavitjan is the music author
of a few multimedia projects, such as for example the
feature-length film “Variations of Life”,
a film of American production, whose director is Pece
Gurcinovski Dingo. The project was highly estimated
by several renowned film and music critics, such as
for example Marc Isham.
As an arranger, Tavitjan has worked with many Macedonian
famous pop artists with great success considering the
Skopje Fest recent award for best arrangement for the
Eurosong contest 2002 in Estonia.
At the moment Tavitjan is working as composer, arranger
and performer with Garo & Paramecium band, also
with his new Jazz trio called “Tavitjan
Brothers” featuring his brother Garo
Tavitjan (Drums), and Dragan Trajkovski (Bass).
They just released their first CD called “Tavitjan
Brothers Trio” which is also on international
jazz competition organized by SONY
in London, UK. Diran Tavitjan entered among 12 finalist
who will have their track released on SONYJAZZ
label. With such a brilliant Jazz trio album, future
sure looks bright for his music aspirations.
